Mia is eleven years old and was born with Muscular Dystrophy. This is a serious condition that causes extreme muscle and skeletal weakness. Mia can lift light objects like CDs but needs someone to help her getting things out of her bag.
Mia is wheelchair bound and goes into hospital every nine months or so, for lengthening of her rods which she has in her back to help her sit up straight.
She is a bubbly and chatty girl, very resilient, and she has a great group of friends who don’t treat her any differently and can see past her condition. She is also the best in her group at playing video and computer games.
Mia absolutely loves dogs, and her Starlight Wish is for a service dog that will become her best friend as well as assist with daily tasks.
Service dogs are amazing animals, specifically trained to help their owner with everyday activities such as fetching a drink and answering the phone. They can also help to break down some of the social barriers created by being confined to a wheelchair all the time.
Mia is so excited about the possibility of having her special Starlight Wish granted – she can’t wait for the day when she will meet her new best friend for life!
