 Volunteer's Stories

Volunteering for Starlight can be a wonderful, fun and rewarding experience - simply read the following stories to find out why:

Ian’s Story (VIC)

Starlight Day volunteer Ian, has been a volunteer with Starlight since 2004. In this time, Ian has been involved with helping Starlight grant the wishes of seriously ill children.  Ian goes over and above every single day in helping Starlight achieve their mission; he is even known to work on wishes on his holidays to ensure they are granted on time. Ian has granted over 14 wishes for seriously ill children over the past two years.

Ian also volunteers for Starlight on Starlight Day. Over the past three years he has sold merchandise at his local shopping centre to help raise much needed funds. Humble Ian believes that “It doesn’t take much effort to make a huge difference. To see the joy that volunteering for Starlight can bring to seriously ill children and their families is the biggest reward.”

Kerrie’s Story (NSW)

Blacktown resident and Starlight Day volunteer, Kerrie, is gearing up for her third Starlight Day.

Kerrie will be selling merchandise at Westpoint Blacktown on the day. Kerrie began volunteering for Starlight as she has seen first hand the positive impact Starlight’s programs can have on seriously ill kids.

Kerrie says she would encourage other members of the community to volunteer for Starlight Day. “It’s such a worthwhile activity and it really doesn’t take up too much of your time. And Starlight is a great cause,” said Kerrie.

Tina’s Story (VIC)

Tina, Berwick resident and Starlight volunteer, has been volunteering her time for Starlight on Starlight Day for the past four years and is now gearing up for her fifth Starlight Day. Tina is also a Starlight Wishgranting volunteer, helping Starlight grant the most cherished wishes of seriously ill children.

Tina says that the best thing about volunteering for Starlight is “being able to see the amount of difference Starlight can create in the life of a seriously ill child and their family. It’s tremendous. I feel humbled as a volunteer for Starlight – it’s a very rewarding role.”

Stephen’s Story (VIC)

Stephen, Frankston resident and Starlight volunteer, has been volunteering his time for Starlight over the past ten years. Stephen first volunteered for Starlight as a Wishgranting volunteer, helping to grant seriously ill children their wishes. 2009 will be Stephen’s fifth year as a Starlight Day volunteer.

Stephen encourages other members of the community to volunteer for Starlight on Starlight Day; “All you have to do is make the conscious decision that you’d like to volunteer for Starlight Day and then it’s just as easy as showing up on the day”.
