The new Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) will be a world-class paediatric hospital, combining new facilities and innovative models of care to provide the best health care and environment for patients and their families.
A vital part of the new hospital will be the Starlight Express Room, a medical free haven where kids can escape the pain, fear and boredom of hospital life, instead experiencing fun, joy and laughter with Captain Starlight.
Our new SER design incorporates all the latest research into the ways architecture, design and lighting can support well being. It is a calm setting to fit in with children’s sensory requirements and is adjacent to an outdoor courtyard, to heighten the ‘escape’ experience.
We need your help to build the new Starlight Express Room!
The Starlight Express Room is a million dollar project, with only $250,000 left to raise in order to complete the build. Starlight receives no government funding, so we are relying on the generosity of the community.
We just need 10,000 generous Aussies to donate $25 to raise the last $250,000 needed to build a new Starlight Express Room in the new Royal Children’s Hospital.
You can transform the experience of the children at the new RCH and their families by donating now.
“Anyone who’s seen that moment when a child’s face lights up – the split watermelon smile, the eyes open wide – can see that for that millisecond the only thing in that child’s life is joy.” – Kieren Perkins, Starlight Luminary.

Ten year old Bella has spent most of her life in the current RCH. She and her sister love dancing in the Starlight Express Room, the painting and craft activities… and of course playing crazy games with Captain Starlight. Bella’s dad Alex loves playing the computer games!
