Now it's time for ACTION!

You’ve read the Starlight 6 Ways to Wellbeing guide and evaluated your own current state of wellbeing using our Best Self Worksheet.

Now, it’s time to set yourself some goals to start working towards a happier, healthier you!

Setting wellbeing goals in positive psychology helps us take an active approach to our own wellbeing. They help us to:

  • focus on our strengths,

  • foster positive emotions,

  • enhance life satisfaction,

  • build resilience,

  • align with personal values,

  • take a holistic approach to our health, and

  • promote long-term positive change.

Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART), meaning they should be clearly defined, quantifiable, realistically attainable, aligned with broader objectives, and come with a defined timeframe.

We suggest you start by making a goal for yourself against your PERMAH element with the lowest score and work your way out from there, but the choice is entirely yours.

Our Starlight Wellbeing Goal Planner will help you develop your wellbeing goals using the SMART framework.

Once you have downloaded the Goal Planner:

  • Under ‘My Goal’, consider what you want to achieve, and why. For example:

  • “To get back to physical exercise 2–3 times per week (what), so I can improve my physical health, and in turn nurture my mental health (why)."

  • Choose a timeframe for when you are going to be regularly achieving your goal.

  • Under “I’ll know when I’m on track when”, set yourself some waypoints which will show you you’re actively achieving your goal. For example:

    • I’m regularly attending gym sessions

    • I have lost the weight I have gained

    • I have more energy.

Using this template, you can write yourself goals for as many PERMAH elements as you like as you go along through your wellbeing journey.
