I can honestly say that I love my job. I listen to so many of my friends and family complain about where they work and their careers. People are always telling me, “I wish I had your job, it sounds amazing and you get to help sick kids while you’re doing it!” and they’re right! For me, one of the best things about working at Starlight is how your development is supported. You can really grow within your role and when I showed interest in moving into a different role, my manager was completely supportive.
A big part of my journey and progression at Starlight has been the support of my manager. She’s helped me gain more confidence and perspective in aspects of the role and my career.
It’s been hard at times finding that balance with young kids, and wanting to do more with my career and take on more projects - while still trying to be a good mum. My manager has been a wonderful mentor for me and learning from her has been great as well. I feel I can go to anyone at Starlight if I need support and I’ll be welcomed, especially in the leadership and executive teams.
That’s another thing I think Starlight does well – our executive team is very accessible.
A career highlight for me has been managing the EB Games account. Being one of Starlight’s Platinum Partners, they have donated over $6.5 million to us, growing their fundraising goals year-on-year. It is a unique partnership that I’ve enjoyed growing and focusing on in my time as an Exec.
I also love the self-driven development and project opportunities offered here. For me, a self-driven project has been recognising the fundraising potential within the gaming community for Starlight. There are so many opportunities in the area of gaming to achieve fundraising growth.
My role is challenging and rewarding, changing every year for every campaign for every partner. It’s so diverse and “thinking big” is the key for me. I love the flexibility that Starlight offers and that everyone’s role is unique. It’s hard for me to narrow down my one favourite thing about working here, but I’m here because I get to do what I love while making an impact in the lives of families with seriously ill kids. How could it get better than that?
