Ben's once in a lifetime adventure

Nine-year-old Ben endured 30 rounds of radiotherapy to his brain and spine to treat a brain tumour, discovered during a routine eye test.

Throughout his ordeal, Captain Starlight was there to bring some much-needed fun and happiness into Ben’s life.

Ben spent every moment possible in the Starlight Express Room, or playing with Captain Starlight on the ward when he was too unwell to leave.

“The Starlight Room and the Captains are truly amazing” says Ben’s Mum Emma. “They cheered everyone up tremendously!”

After so long in hospital, Ben knew exactly what to choose for his Starlight Wish!

For his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Ben spent a day with the Royal Australian Navy learning all about how a submariner lives and works below the sea.

Mum Emma was blown away by Ben’s incredible day;

“The crew were amazing. They showed us a really great day and went above and beyond for Ben.” she says.

Thanks to you, sick kids like Ben can make incredible lifelong memories through their own unique Starlight Wishes.

You've brought a lifetime of smiles to Sophie.

Sixteen-year-old Sophie has been to hospital every single week for over thirteen years. But thanks to you, Starlight has been there to bring fun every step of the way.

As a young girl, Sophie loved the laughter Captain Starlight would bring to distract her from her treatments.

As a teenager, Sophie loves Starlight’s Livewire program, which connects her with other young people managing illness.

But, it’s Sophie’s Starlight Wish that’s really stolen her heart! Gorgeous Cavoodle pup Maisie has brought a whole new level of joy to Sophie and her family.

“Maisie means the world to me.” says Sophie.

For children who spend a lot of time in hospital, there’s very little to love about the endless stretches of hallway. Except of course when a surprise kitchen pops up overnight!

Thanks to your support, Captain Starlight built a play kitchen to delight and entertain the kids.

The children had the freedom to explore, create and “cook” anything they fancied. A buzz of curiosity, energy and excitement filled the hospital, as kids discovered the surprise play space in their midst.
