Meaning & purpose, every day

We’re talented, positive and energetic people who live our Shine value, share our vision and embrace innovation, collaboration and creativity.

We play to our strengths, love a good challenge and we champion new ideas. We achieve huge satisfaction from our work because we see the positive impact we’re making on the lives of seriously ill children, young people and their families.

We’re true believers in positivity in all that we do, and we bring our Best Selves to work every single day.

Our vibrant, positive and flexible culture is truly unique, and we’re not the only ones who say it! Starlight is the only charity to be among 2020’s 50 Best Places to Work in Australia. We were selected as an Employer of Choice in The Australian Business Awards in 2018, and ranked in the Best Places to Work study in 2017 and 2014. We were also the only charity accredited as an Aon Hewitt Best Employer for 2014 and 2012.

Positive teams deliver stronger outcomes, with higher levels of innovation, agility and creativity working to deliver better results. Our awards show how well this is working at Starlight.

Why work at Starlight

Meaning & purpose

We’re a talented and engaged team, united by our commitment to our mission – because we believe that happiness matters.

Through our “Get Connected” program, team members spend one day each quarter connected with Starlight children and their families through our Starlight Express Rooms, Livewire or Wishgranting programs. This means we see the direct impact of our work and our mission is never far from our thoughts - and that’s hugely inspiring.

It's why we get out of bed each day with a deep sense of purpose; we know the work we do is meaningful.

Inspired leadership

We’re one of Australia’s most influential and trusted children’s charities. We believe this is thanks to great leadership at an individual level – from our CEO Louise Baxter, to our national and state advisory boards to each individual team member.

We invest in our people and our Managers are trained as coaches, effectively leading those around them.

We look for people who are curious and love learning, innovating and achieving to ensure Starlight will thrive well into the future.

Exceptional talent

Our unique culture encourages personal growth, self-directed learning and high levels of achievement. We’re committed to investing in our team through coaching and development, ensuring they can be their Best Selves at work, at home and in their communities.

We’re committed to our wellbeing, which includes working flexibly. Our Positivity@Starlight program is central to life at Starlight, in fact, we were one of the first organisations to successfully incorporate the science of positive psychology into the workplace.

Join Starlight and you’ll feel appreciated, celebrated, encouraged and challenged.

Award-winning workplace

We’re the only charity in the 2020 Best Places to Work study, which is the third time we’ve been listed. In 2018, we were named as an Employer of Choice in The Australian Business Awards and we’ve also been accredited as an Aon Hewitt Best Employer.

Not only that, we’ve also proud to have been ranked 9th in The Australian Financial Review’s Most Innovative Companies list of 2019, in the government, education and NFP category.

Unique experiences

We offer some of the most unique employment experiences on the planet! Granting Starlight Wishes or wearing Captain Starlight’s superhero cape is all in a day's work. How many other places in the world can you do that?

Safeguarding children and young people

Starlight's most important responsibility.
