Boston's story
Boston had his first surgery at just 28 days old.
Since then, he’s faced countless tests, surgeries and scans to uncover the complex digestive, bladder and nervous system conditions he lives with. He was later diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, as well as Autism and ADHD. By the time he’d turned six, Boston had endured over 30 surgeries. While other kids his age were playing and making new friends at school, Boston was alone in the scary world of hospital.
Through all the stress and worry, Starlight has brought Boston’s family vital moments of fun and happiness.
When Boston spent his first and fourth birthdays in hospital, Captain visited his room with songs, surprises and games to make those milestones unforgettable. And when his first day of school happened in hospital, Captain Starlight was there again with a special “first day of kindy” gift bag to make it feel just as exciting as it should.
“Starlight has helped us create so many wonderful memories,” shares Amanda, Boston’s mum.

For seriously ill children like Boston, hospital isn’t a one‑off. It’s a part of life.
Serious illness affects much more than a child’s health. It takes away confidence, friendships and happiness. Research shows seriously ill children experience much higher levels of anxiety, depression and isolation. Siblings often feel left out and worried, and families face enormous stress throughout treatment.
