Bill's story
With a great sense of adventure, 8 year old Bill is happiest spending time outdoors with his family on their farm.
Just hours after Bill was born, his parents Stephanie and Cameron grew worried. Something wrong with Bill’s breathing.
A day later he faced his first big medical challenge — a collapsed lung.
A series of tests later, Bill was diagnosed with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, a lifelong respiratory condition with no cure.
“We were in shock, trying to make the best choices for Bill. It was an isolating experience” said mum Stephanie.
Since then, Bill has faced many challenges. He’s been emergency airlifted to hospital, faced many surgeries, and been admitted into the ICU.
Thankfully Bill can visit the Starlight Express Room whenever he is in hospital to have fun with Captain Starlight.
Bill enjoys sharing his love for the Fremantle Dockers with Captain Starlight — making craft floats based on his favourite team and joining in on parades in the Starlight Express Room.
“The Starlight Express Room helps Bill escape from the medical environment for a little while. Having fun with Captain Starlight gives him the motivation to complete his treatments and therapies,” said Stephanie.
Your support today can help bring happiness to seriously ill children like Bill every time they are in hospital. You’ll be helping them find the resilience they need to embrace the challenges of a serious illness.
