Sebastian has a painful, incurable, and life-limiting illness causing seizures, scoliosis, decreased muscle tone and profound developmental delays. His life is filled with medical appointments and hospital admissions.
For families like Sebastian's, caring for a child with such complex medical needs can be exhausting and extremely lonely. In the midst of these difficult times, the ongoing care of Starlight’s Moments program has helped remind Sebastian's mum Sandra, that she and her family are not alone.
Starlight Moments is designed to gift families with regular “moments” of family connection, fun, and celebration – organising experiences the family may no longer be doing for themselves as they care for their palliative child. Every ‘moment’ is built around the little things that matter to the family.
From organising a birthday party for a healthy sibling because mum and dad may not have the time or energy, to recognising special family occasions, and planning connections with extend family or community, in this program, the whole family is cared for.
