After so much time in hospital, Lexie wished for a cubby house to have a special place to play, relax and let her imagination soar. Lexie jumped with joy when she opened the front door of her very own cubby house. Her mum Mikayala said Lexie has spent just about every day playing in the cubby ever since!
“Lexie absolutely loves it and all the beautiful gifts too. I was speechless on the day seeing the cubby come together with all the decorations – it’s just wonderful. I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for us,” she said.

Happiness in hospital, thanks to you!
Thank you for your support in 2025 making hospital a happy place for sick kids like six-year-old Mackenzie. Spinal surgery and a devastating cancer diagnosis shattered Kenzie’s world. Chemotherapy, painful physical therapy and long lonely days in hospital isolation took their toll. Kenzie missed her friends at school and going to her dance classes.
But thanks to your support, Captain Starlight made every day in hospital so much brighter. When Kenzie was in isolation, the Captains’ visits always made her laugh. And in the Starlight Express Room, Kenzie loved playing Mario Kart and having her face painted - it made her feel like a kid again.
“It’s not even possible to think of what hospital would be like without the Captain Starlights! They make even the hardest day bearable - it was something to look forward to every single day,” her mum Erika said.

Creating a sense of belonging for young people
Through your generous support, Livewire creates a fun, safe space where young people living with serious illness or disability can be creative, make friends and feel accepted.
During the year, Livewire members joined in creative writing workshops and shared their stories. Teenager Georgia, who lives with cerebral palsy and a speech impediment shared her story about a fictional boy called Luke whose journey mirrored her own finding confidence and belonging through Livewire.
In her heartfelt story, we meet Luke who loves gaming online but fears being teased. Past experiences left him anxious and withdrawn, until a kind moderator welcomes him into an understanding online community.
“He went to bed happy that he had fun playing with his peers and glad that everyone was patient and understanding of his speech difficulties,” Georgia wrote.

How you’re transforming healthcare for kids in remote communities
Thanks to your generous support, Captain Starlight visits remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities helping to make healthcare clinics more positive for kids and their families. During a recent clinic visit, a little boy was feeling anxious and scared about taking his medicine until Captain Starlight and their cheeky crocodile puppet arrived. With playful encouragement from the Captains and nurses, the boy raced to take his medicine before Carl the Crocodile could gobble it up! Laughter filled the room, as the little boy’s fears and worries disappeared.
Your support makes these important moments of fun and distraction possible helping to make health visits more positive so more kids in remote communities access the vital healthcare they need.
