Our mission is to brighten the lives of sick kids and that's only possible thanks to our wonderful volunteer community. We started as a volunteer organisation over 30 years ago, and volunteers are still essential to what we do today.

Volunteer at Queensland Children's Hospital

The Starlight Express Room in Queensland Children's Hospital is a fun-filled place where kids and families can take a break from the stress and pain of treatment and enjoy games, fun and laughter. Our volunteers play a vital role making that happen!

Our Starlight Express Room Volunteers get to play and be kids again with activities including video games, movies, dancing, art, craft and cooking.

If you love being creative, you might choose to volunteer with our Livewire program for adolescents. Livewire supports teenagers living with a serious illness or disability. Livewire Volunteers help run creative workshops for teens in hospital, including art, photography, music, animation, coding and gaming. You'll help young people learn new skills and make friends which is so important for teens feeling isolated in hospital.

Volunteer to help sick kids

Starlight Express Room and Livewire Volunteers also help grant once-in-a-lifetime Starlight Wishes, so you could help make a child’s dream come true! One of our most popular Wish choices is a family holiday to Queensland's incredible theme parks, so you could find yourself welcoming a family at the airport, helping them find their way around a theme park or even delivering a new puppy.

Office and event volunteer opportunities in Brisbane

Are you keen to gain office experience, or want to use your professional skills for something truly meaningful? Our Brisbane office team often need volunteers with administration, data, business, digital, creative or marketing skills.

We also have volunteer roles at events in and around Brisbane. You could find yourself fundraising at the footy, selling Starlight merchandise at the lighting of the Lord Mayor's Christmas tree, or helping out at a black-tie event. Event volunteering is super flexible and super energising!

All our Programs Volunteers receive full training and support, and have a dedicated Volunteer Advisor, Jasmine Chan. Jasmine is there to ensure every volunteer has a positive Starlight experience.

Our volunteer roles work around your schedule. Some, like our Starlight Express Room and Livewire Volunteers roles, require a regular commitment. Others, such as volunteering for events, are perfect if you need more flexibility.

We're committed to providing an environment that's caring, nurturing and safe for children so all volunteers will undertake a Working with Children Check and a National Police Check.
