Dan is a Brisbane Lions legend who was widely regarded as one of the most competitive midfielders in the AFL league. He played 275 AFL games for the Brisbane Lions across his career from 2008–2023.
Dan's sporting spirit shines off the field too.
As a proud Starlight Ambassador, Dan regularly visits the Starlight Express Room in Brisbane. He's always keen to get involved with all the activities and play games with the kids. He even helped Captain Starlight host their first ever pyjama party in hospital!
He has brought smiles to sick kids' faces joining in the festive fun of the Starlight Christmas party.
Dan says he is always struck by how much fun kids have with Captain Starlight despite being stuck in hospital.
"Visiting the Starlight Express Room has always been a highlight for me. To be able to spend time with the kids in such a fun-filled place away from the wards is incredible. I love getting back to the craft table and I definitely need to improve on my Mario Kart game!" - Dan Rich
Dan has also lent his support during Wish Week spending time with Starlight kids and families and has helped at Starlight Day events raising vital funds and awareness for Starlight's programs.
We are so thankful to Dan for his enthusiasm and energy helping to bring happiness to sick kids and their families.
ABOUT: Originally from Western Australia, Dan made the move to Queensland to pull on the Brisbane Lions Number 10 Guernsey. To the delight of local fans, he was picked as the club’s first selection in the 2008 National Draft. He celebrated his 275 AFL games with the Brisbane Lions before retiring in 2023 as a decorated one club player.
