Starlight Ambassador since 2014

With so many impressive titles to his name, we are honoured that Mick adds Starlight Ambassador to the list.

The retired World Champion surfer generously gives so much of his time and energy to bring happiness to sick kids and their families.

"The work Starlight does is incredible. They bring fun and laughter back into the lives of kids who are going through unbelievably tough times." - Mick Fanning

The very first Starlight Wish Mick granted was a surf lesson at Sydney's Manly beach. After the lesson, Mick surprised his young protégé with his latest competition surfboard signed by all the pro surfers on the tour. It was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Since then, Mick has helped many more sick kids' Starlight Wishes come true. He has joined kids during Wish Week on the Gold Coast running fun surf sessions for kids of all ages and abilities.

In 2015 Mick helped open the Starlight Express Room at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital (now Queensland Children's Hospital) and has visited the room to deliver presents from his sponsors to kids and families in hospital over Christmas.

He also generously attended our 30th anniversary celebrations with Virgin Australia in 2018 much to the delight of Starlight Wish kids and families.

In 2017 Mick was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of his commitment to the community, with specific mention of his services to Starlight. In 2021, Mick was the face our Super Swim challenge to help make a splash for sick kids!
