Pete Campbell is fast on his way to becoming one of the country’s finest self-taught chefs.
From the corporate world, to tattoo artist, to runner up on MasterChef Australia 2021, Pete is proof that anything is possible if you follow your passion.
Pete grew up on the NSW Central Coast and his earliest food memories are of meat and potatoes!
His passion for food was cemented years later after travelling throughout Europe, Asia and USA.
“I discovered how much food has the potential to truly change your outlook and perspective,” Pete said.
With his inner ‘foodie’ ignited, Pete left his corporate career and moved his young family to Los Angeles where he honed his culinary skills. As a self-taught cook, Pete developed a deeper understanding of cooking techniques and flavours and loves the experience of preparing and sharing food with others.
Fast forward to today, and back on home soil, Pete’s success on MasterChef propelled him into the world of fine dining as Commis Chef at Quay restaurant in Sydney where he worked for several months to further enhance his fine dining skills before moving onto Effie's in Manly, and currently you'll find him cooking up a storm at Poly in Surry Hills.
Outside of the kitchen, Pete has generously supported Starlight and Livewire events and campaigns, and we are delighted he is now a proud Starlight Ambassador.
As a dad to two daughters, Pete was inspired to get involved with Starlight to help give sick kids a happy childhood.
“Starlight gives sick kids the fun and happiness they need so they can live their best lives. It’s so rewarding to see the impact of all those smiles.”
Pete’s philosophy in life is all about encouraging others to face the challenges of the ‘uncharted roads’ ahead. As a Starlight Ambassador, he’s excited to play a part helping give sick kids the positivity they need to do just that.
ABOUT: Pete’s passion for food was rewarded in 2021 when he was crowned runner-up of MasterChef Australia. After cultivating his fine-dining culinary skills under the tutelage of Executive Chef Peter Gilmore at Sydney's most prestigious dining room, Quay, and now at Poly in Surry Hills, Pete is on his way to fast becoming one of the country’s finest self-taught chefs.
